We just it a milestone of 1,000,000 public domain, searchable, downloadable books that came from hundreds of libraries in the United States. This is a marvelous achievement by probably over a thousand people from many projects funded by a diverse set of non-profits, governments, educational institutions, and corporations.

Together, the public domain is becoming much more accessible to the public.

Growing up, I don't think I had a million book library accessible to me, at least not easily. Now anyone can have access to this library.

Next steps are to bring better access and fill out the collection with more books, including more recent ones.

Onward!

That's really amazing, don't forget that these are accesible globally which compounds the benefits by many, many times. Especially for those of us that live in cultural backwaters ;-)
