new member, please enlighten me :) |
Grettings this is my first post
here is my question
This short subject film was registered in April, 2nd 1930 and renewed on August 7th, 1957. By what I understand is totally valid
BUT......the in-notice reads 1931. I have attached a picture of the title card that shows the notice on the film.
1931 + 27 years = 1958
So going by the in-notice the renewal window would be from April, 2nd 1958 all the way to April, 2nd 1959 right?
Does it matter if the in-notice is later than the registration? or do you go by the registration date?
any help would be much appreciated as I'm new to all of this.
Thanks,
Katieq

Re: new member, please enlighten me :) |
hi there and welcome here...you looked up the correct dates for the wrong film...in 1930 and 1931 there was a film with the title free and easy... the first one is the first sound feature film staring buster keaton and was released by mgm..the one released in 1931 is the vitaphone short you were looking for..you did a good job looking it up but got the wrong movie

Re: new member, please enlighten me :) |
Hello again
well...after researching FREE AND EASY i found no such title in the copyright registrations for 1930 or 1931 but the feature you mentioned.
So does this mean it is public domain? or am I missing something
thanks ;)

Re: new member, please enlighten me :) |
IMDB has release of Oct 1931.
Amer Film Inst doesn't show it at all.
Cannot find a registration let alone a renewal.
I would have to say PD.
